Hello everyone! After having some time to think, I’ve decided to address the fucked up (excuse my French) situation we are currently living in. You may have noticed the whole world is contained in their houses, so it is natural people will seek entertainment on the most popular travel destination available at the moment – the internet.
However, I think this is am incredible opportunity to indulge in a little reading! There are whole worlds waiting to be discovered and you have so much time to be Indiana Jones in this adventure! If not only to be entertained, you could also find a bit of peace by reading about a world not as dark as our own is at the moment…
All that being said, I’ve decided to give you a few recommendations on what to read. I will separate the recommendations into genres. However, I won’t give you any information about what the books themselves are about… I think it is best you simply give yourselves in and explore. (I’ll link my review if I’ve written one, so if you are curious you can read it.)
To start with a bit of love, here are five (plus one, as a treat) amazing romance novels:
- VIP series by Kristen Callihan which includes:
Idol Managed Fall - The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
. - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
. - The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George
. - The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
. - Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
If you are looking to be afraid, anxious and/or disturbed, here are some horrors, thrillers, and mysteries:
- It by Stephen King
. - The Good Girl by Mary Kubica
. - The Harpy by Megan Hunter
. - Enemy Queen by Robert Steven Goldstein
. - The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
. - The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
If you’re into something otherworldly, be it fantasy or SF, here are a few suggestions:
- The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
. - The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
. - American Gods by Neil Gaiman
. - The Giver by Lois Lowry
. - In Exile by Alexandra Turney
.
This is perhaps the right time to read some classics… you have a lot of time after all. And you’ll even get to brag that you’ve read the most pretentious books of all time. To start with, here are some of my favourite easy classics just waiting for you!
- The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
. - The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
. - Dracula by Bram Stoker
. - Candide by Voltaire
. - The Epic of Gilgamesh
. - Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu
.
I think that’s enough for now. Let me know what you think about these books if you’ve read them before or if you read them because of me! Let’s chat about books!
Thank you for reading! Be safe and stay at home! Bye-bye!

I loved reading The Giver! I’m not a big fan of horror books but I definitely want to try reading IT and The Harpy (although I read in your review that you couldn’t categorize it in a specific genre). Have you read Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone?

I certainly recommend The Harpy!
I haven’t read Jane Doe. What is it about?

It’s about this woman that works at an insurance company and wants to expose her friend’s ex-boyfriend’s secrets. It’s a book all about revenge that has kind of a vibe like Gone Girl. The synopsis that is on Goodreads is more interesting hahaha.

This is such a good time to keep reading. I’ve already read Pride and Prejudice, but I’ll be buddy reading Persuasion with another friend!
The Picture of Dorian Gray is also really good – Oscar Wilde’s witty humor never fails to get me!

I’ve seen mixed reviews about The Little Paris Bookshop but I’m interested to give it a go and see for myself.

The Little Paris Bookshop is really special to me because I read it during a really rough time in my life. In a way I think it made me strong enought to change things that were making me feel bad. I’m actually planning to reread it soon!
I hope you enjoy it as well 🙂
